Accessibility
RankThatMovie aims to be usable by as many people as possible. We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our practical benchmark and treat accessibility as an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off task.
What we aim for
- Keyboard: navigation, movie cards, filters, the roulette tool, the language menu and consent controls should work without a mouse.
- Focus: a visible focus indicator, a logical order, and focus returned correctly after dialogs or roulette results.
- Contrast: text, badges, score rings, muted metadata and buttons tested against WCAG contrast ratios.
- Motion: we respect the “reduced motion” system setting and provide a non-spinning equivalent for the roulette.
- Forms: real labels and grouped fields for mood, time and audience selections, with a clear selected state.
- Images: meaningful poster alt text; decorative images marked so screen readers skip them.
- Scores: trust and score information is never communicated by colour alone — text labels accompany it.
- Language: each page declares its language so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
Known limitations
We are actively testing and improving. Some areas may not yet fully meet AA — for example complex interactive components and third-party embeds (such as trailer players and, when enabled, advertising) are partly outside our direct control. We prioritise fixes that affect core journeys.
Reasonable adjustments
As a UK service we aim to make reasonable adjustments so people are not put at a substantial disadvantage. If something is hard to use with assistive technology, tell us and we will try to help and to fix it.
